Changing the props (production blog)
We changed a lot of things when we started filming. Two props we did not end up using is the duct tape and rope. The duct tape was not used for many reasons. One of the reasons is that the duct tape material was uncomfortable to use on my sister. Since she's so little we did not want it to hurt her when it was needed to be taken off. We used bandanas instead so it would not hurt when it got taken off. Another reason was the smell from the duct tape was not pleasing to my sister (the kidnapper's victim). The next prop we changed out were the ropes. I did not find any rope around my house so instead of buying rope, I decided to change it out completely. I chose to use a headscarf as rope. The scarf tie is a lot similar to the bandanas. The scarf tie is softer and more comfortable on skin compared to rope. We have yet to film the scenes that consist of using these props. The scene that will use these props is after the kidnapper leaves the park. Also, we are going to put the bandanas over both her eyes and mouth. At first we were just going to put it over her mouth only. We then thought covering both makes more sense so the victim would not be able to see anything. Then, tie her arms and legs with the scarf ties. We planned only to tie her legs but decided to tie her arms too. Tying everything makes the victim less likely to escape and makes its more realistic of a pro kidnapper.
