Research : How to make a short film

This informational video helped opened my eyes to more knowledge on how to produce our own film. While watching I noticed I already knew somethings like when they were talking about the creation of films. However, "How to make a short film" video gave a lot of new tips that will help me in the production of our short film journey. The production tips and post production tips in this video were given by a expert in film. One tip that caught my attention is when the expert mentions to not do it if you can’t pull it off. Another tip is that it is key to mess with the audience's mind and emotions. The expert explains that it is either all or nothing and to not do something half or partially. This kind of reminds me of this expression, " Go big or go home". This expression implies it's all or nothing which is why the film expert explanation reminded me of it. Adding unnecessary things to a scene because it looks like a cool element to your film will just make the film confusing and all over the place.Since we have limited sources since covid is still around and other factors like we are not adults, we will plan our storyboards accordingly. Another important tip that was said was to see the film from the audience's point of view. See the film as if you were watching it instead of filming it. Whatever you were assuming that was gonna happen while watching it, do the complete opposite as the producer. When action is going on in the film change the timing of when that action occurs where the audience least expects it.You do this to build up the suspense and grasp the audience's attention.Taking into part that our short film is about a toxic mother and daughter relationship, the audience will have some accurate assumptions of what is going to be occur in most of the scenes. The knowledge retained from this video is that we should switch it up and throw an unexpected action into our film. Another phrase comes to mind to relate to this tip. The phrase is " don't judge a book by it's cover", which means what you are assuming from seeing the outside can be completely different form what's in the inside. This is our aim to shock the audience because their assumptions may just be vague and comparing it to any other verbal abuse relationship movie. The post production tips that were very helpful was to take breaks during editing and to have others review your film.Taking breaks will help enhance your production and editing skills for the better. After watching the same short film too much, the effects will be that we might be missing something.Taking a break from editing will allow you to come back and find scenes that can be either cut or lengthened. The other tip of having others view your short film will give you an unbiased opinion and point out things you have missed.
