CCR for my music video
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent socials groups or issues?
My music video uses most of its conventions that are in its genre. The genres of my music video were dance-pop and latin which are just subcategories for pop culture. The common conventions are vibrant colors, open settings, and party like clothing in the genre dance-pop and latin. In my music video I used and followed most of the genres conventions. One convention that can be seen that is showed throughout the video are dancing and lip singing scenes. For example, the scene where an actress is singing in the shower. Another example, the scene where a group of friends danced at the beach at night. These scenes involve the dance-pop and latin genre visuals and how they get their audience to interact with the music. The whole point of this convention is to get the audience to sing and/or dance along with the song. Also, the settings that is seen within my music video are the most common settings in the dance-pop genre. For example, the scenes that took place at the beach which is one of the common setting in this genre. However, the costumes are not the traditional clothing for neither genres. The costumes used in my music video were casual and basic clothing not flashy or party type clothing. Moreover, the music video consisted of a close up angle and a pan movement because those angles are very important for the genre my music video is in. This music video can represent many different types of issues and social groups depending on the audiences interpretation. However, this music video only consist of one main social issue. The social issue this music video represents is the obsession of another person and losing yourself in the process. Throughout the music video it shows an actress holding a picture of a boy while doing her daily routine. The actress is shown that she cannot do her basic routine without looking at her crushes picture. The social group that is being represented is teenagers and/or young adults. This social group mostly struggles with the fact of crushing on someone which can lead to unhealthy behavior like obsession. Also, this type of music can represent people that just like to party no matter what their age is.
2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My music video has many aspects to it which helps engage the audience at all times. This product is easy to grasps the audience because of the song chosen plus the visuals for it. The lyrics and beat of this song is also a big contribution to getting the audience engagement for the music video. By using the conventions of the dance-pop genre, this music video can draw the audiences attention quickly. The music video consists of a relatable story so that helps intrigue the audience. To keep the audiences attention, I have scenes that consist of beautiful scenery. Also, the song alone is very catchy and can encourage my audience to sing or dance along. The music video is produced like a movie trailer so the audience would keep watching it to find out what happens all the way till the end. I would distribute this music video on YouTube. I would do this because this platform is free and has access to billions of people. Youtube has access to all age groups from young to old. Also, distributing on YouTube will give quick access to the music video for people to watch and can be shared to others faster. The next platform I would distribute this music video is on Apple Music because of how many people have apple products. About a billion people are using apple products and that number is increasing everyday. Also, that platform will target the teenage/young adult group which is in fact the intended audience for my music video. Out of YouTube and Apple Music, if I only could choose one platform I would choose YouTube. I would choose YouTube because it provides more of stable wide reach audience since it is available to everyone for free.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project ?
My production skills did not greatly improve or develop throughout this project. This project did not need a lot of editing because it only consisted of background music and the scenes for the music video. Prior to this project I already knew how to do those things so that is why I did not greatly improve my skills. However, this project did contribute to practicing my production skills. This means that getting practice is good for perfecting my production skills which leads to the development of my production skills too. Also, for most of the scenes I was both the director and actress so filming those scenes were not difficult to do since I was doing it all by myself. I did not have to direct anyone for most of the scenes. Overall, I did not develop any new production skills throughout this project. Nevertheless, I did improve my skills by having to do the same filming and editing process for this music video that I have done before. Also, This project had little to no contribution to my production skills because this music video did not require a lot of elements for the finish product. To edit and film this music video I did not have to learn anything new for the production of it.
4. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online- in this project?
For this music video, I used my phone to film and edit all the scenes. My phone is portable so I could edit and film anywhere I was and that is why I did everything on my phone for this project. Also, my phone has good camera quality and a lot of storage so filming scenes on it would not be a problem. Overall, my phone is just easier to use since most of these scenes within my music video I had to be filmed by me.I used online to find the song I chose which was "Shower by Becky G". The online application I used was called Google. I used this online application again to find the original music video for this song to get some ideas for my scenes for my version of the songs music video.I used both hardware and software to shoot this music video. The hardware I used was a tripod to film since I had to be both the director and actress. Using the tripod also helped me get certain angles I needed for each scene. The next hardware I used was a ring light. The ring light provided lighting so the lighting in certain scenes could be clear and have good lighting. Furthermore, in this project I mainly used software for it. The software I used is called iMovie for the editing process of this music video. This software was used to add the song as the primary sound for this project and to get rid of any unnecessary background noises. This application also helped me add text to my music video. Also, it helped improved the lighting in some of the scenes that had bad lighting. Most importantly, the software was the key component to getting a good finish product for this project.
