Genre Decision Blog

After researching different genres in the filming industry, Sonali and I chose the genre for our opening sequence. We chose the genre which is called action. It worked out perfectly because both Sonali and I enjoy action movies the most and watch them all the time.Due to us not being in school, we discussed this over a video call. The pitch we chose for our opening sequence is, "Little girl is kidnapped and taken away from her family. We both agreed that this pitch would fall under the category of either thriller or action. In the end, we chose that action would fit our film better.Action will be a good genre for our film because this genre uses over the shoulder shots, pan movements and ominous music which can be used in our opening sequence film. For our opening sequence, we can use an over shoulder shot when someone is holding the missing person paper. We can also use an over the shoulder shot when I am devastated about my little sister being gone. We can use a pan movement when my sister is being taken by the kidnapper, which will probably be by my brother. Also, we could use a pan movement to show certain scenes, such as me running around the park to find my little sister. Lastly, we can use ominous music throughout the opening sequence.Ominous music will most likely be towards the end once to show the missing person flyer. We are only filming the opening sequence so there won't be much room to show any crazy action happening.Although our pitch won't be a whole movie, it would still fall under the category of action due to the fact that throughout the movie, the family of the little girl will stop at nothing to get her back. Now that we chose our genre, we will now make sure to include techniques and elements that are in typical action films. We will plan out our storyboard and make sure it's perfect. Honestly the process before filming is way longer than the actually filming process.Once we've included everything we need, we will then start the filming process.
