Changing the props (production blog)

Image
We changed a lot of things when we started filming. Two props we did not end up using is the duct tape and rope. The duct tape was not used for many reasons. One of the reasons is that the duct tape material was uncomfortable to use on my sister. Since she's so little we did not want it to hurt her when it was needed to be taken off. We used bandanas instead so it would not hurt when it got taken off. Another reason was the smell from the duct tape was not pleasing to my sister (the kidnapper's victim). The next prop we changed out were the ropes. I did not find any rope around my house so instead of buying rope, I decided to change it out completely. I chose to use a headscarf as rope. The scarf tie is a lot similar to the bandanas. The scarf tie is softer and more comfortable on skin compared to rope. We have yet to film the scenes that consist of using these props. The scene that will use these props is after the kidnapper leave...

Finally Began Filming (production blog)

Image
Sonali and I started officially filming on March 25 during spring break. While filming we changed many things. Firstly, we changed which park we went to. Instead of the park we originally planned on going to we ended up going to a park called Holiday Park. We chose this park because it was closer and convenient for both of us. When we went to the park two police officers were there. We informed them that we were filming for a class project just to be careful. They said it was perfectly fine to film. Then, we asked could we possibly have them or their car in our film to make the kidnapping seem more realistic. Sadly, the police officers declined so we didn’t film anything with them. It was so hot that day of filming. We were all sweating and tried to only take one video for each scene. However, at least two scenes took three different takes to come out correctly. We all ended up taking turns to film but...

Filming Day was unsuccessful

Image
Production Blog          On March 18 which is an early release day from school, Sonali and I tried to film. We were unsuccessful of starting to film. A issue came up with Sonali which prevented us from filming. The issue was her job called unexpectedly for her to come in. She chose to go and we rescheduled the day of us filming. This was no problem for me since I didn't feel like filming anyways. However, we are going to officially start filming March 24. We cannot reschedule filming day no longer since both of our schedules are completely different. Also, since the due date is coming closer and still need to edit the film, we cannot waste any more time. The editing process does take a while too so we need to film now. We will film the whole day on March 24 and then the next day we will continue filming. We decided those two days are best to film. There are many reasons why those days fit best for us. The first reason is the weather is going to be sunny s...

Trying to Film

Image
Production Blog          Sonali and I are trying to start filming and stick to the schedule we made. We are trying to start filming March 18, which is on a Thursday. We chose this day for two reasons. For one it is an early release day which means we get out of school early so we would have time to film during the day. The other reason is that the day after is no school which means we can film without being on a time limit. We now know what scenes and locations we want to film first. We want to film the scenes that include both Sonali and I first to get that out the way. These scenes take place at a park and a house. Moreover, the scenes that do not consist Sonali, I can film at my pace or any day. The reason is because the scenes that do not consist of her, it consists of my brother and sister being the actors. Since my siblings and I live together it is easy to plan with them compared to Sonali. We are filming the "hard" scenes first. By hard I mean scenes tha...

Props We Are Going To Use (production blog)

Image
I have written a list of props needed for this film to seem realistic and stay organized. Sonali and I only know the main props we are going to use. The props that are the main are missing person's flyers, duct tape, rope, phones, and a water bottle. We are not sure if we wanted to add on to our props list or keep it how it is now with just 5 props on the list. I already had most of these props on the list since most of these things I already had at home. The first prop I found is phones which of course is self explanatory. However, if it is not self explanatory to you, I have 2 phones which both can be used as a prop. The next prop I looked around my house for is duct tape which I found. I have yet to find any rope so if Sonali does not find any, we could buy some or improvise. Instead of using rope we could use zip ties because I have some at my house. The next prop is a water bottle which is one the easiest props to get since it is a necessity...

Editing Softwares (Production)

Image
Production          Sonali and I have not started editing anything because we did not start filming anything yet. However, we are figuring out what editing software to use and what websites to use to find background music. To edit our film we chose the application called iMovie. We chose this app because we are both familiar with it and know the features of this app. IMovie is also a good editing software and easy to use. It has all the features we need to edit a film. It has options for background music, different title fonts, and many more features. Sonali and I have not chosen who's editing the film or if we are going to split it into 1 minute of editing for each of us. We already know that our biggest struggle from editing might be getting exactly 2 minutes for our opening sequence. Also, we do not want it looking like a trailer of a movie so we have to pay attention to how we're editing the different scenes. Another thing we are trying to avoid while editin...

Final Task- Filming and Editing Blog

Image
Sonali and I have yet to start the filming process. This also means we also have yet to start editing. Sonali and I decided to officially start filming when our spring break starts which is March 18. We decided that break is the best timing for both of us.We both have different schedules going on at the moment, school, and do not live super close by each other. Spring break will give us the time to actually go to our different settings and film without interruption. However, we are starting to get the props needed for our opening sequence. We do not need a lot of props but the main props we need are duct tape, rope, and paper. Also, I am going through family videos that consist of my sister which is gonna be the victim of the kidnapping. If I am lucky enough to find family videos that works best with the opening sequence, we will use them in the film. Sonali and I decided using family videos within the opening sequence will make the kidnapping lo...

Planning Final- Storyboard

Image
In scene one three girls will be walking and it will be shot as a long shot while the title Sonali & Ronneka Inc presents pops up. The scene that consists of the man pulling one of the girls arms, the title of the movie will pop up which is the name AMBER ALERT.  The next scene when the kidnapper is taking the girl and running the titles music by and edited by will appear on the screen. They look at the missing person's flyer and then Ronneka pulls out her phone to record Sonali asking for help from the public. While that is happening, the kidnapper is parked at a parking garage close by. Niyah starts banging on the kidnapper's window so he leaves the garage before anyone notices. While Sonali and Ronneka are walking home the phone rings and it is their mother. While on the phone with their mother, Sonali gets another call from their missing sister. Ronneka calls the police to track it but they failed to get a location.

Planning for final task: Location,Health, Schedule, and more

Image
Location Ronneka and I will be filming in multiple settings. We will be filming at a park in our neighborhood, at one of our houses, and a police station if possible. We probably won't be filming inside the station but we will take some videos outside of the station in order to show that we are going to be in a police station in the next scene. Also, at a parking lot or garage if possible. Health and Safety To ensure our safety, Ronneka's brother who is also going to be an actor in our film, will be our adult supervisor.  When it's just Ronneka and I, we will make sure our parents know where we are at all times.   When we are filming at the park or anywhere public, we will make sure to practice social distance and make sure it safe to take off our masks when we start our filming.  If there's too many people we will want or come back when it's not as crowded. When it comes to filming in the car, we will either have a friend or family member in the car so I am not filmi...

Planning Final Task: Title Designs

Image
Final Task: Title Design When it comes to planning out our opening sequence, the titles need to stand out and correlate with the mood that the movie is going to give off. After watching several opening sequences under the action genre, we got an idea on how we want to our fonts and colors to be for our titles. The fonts of our titles will be big and bolded in order to make them visible in our opening sequence. We will be filming with somewhat colorful backgrounds so we have to make sure the titles standout.   For example, DIRECTED BY   RONNEKA DORAH  And   SONALI CASTANON.     Depending on the background of the scene, the color of the titles may differ. Some title designs will be black while others will be white.Depending on the title and scene, the titles will be in the middle, bottom right hand corner, and top left hand corner. For example, the studio title and film title will be centered in the middle. The words will enter the screen in a typing manner ...
